Classroom Procedures

Daily Communication/Home Folder

I will be communicating with you daily about your child's day through the home folder.  The folder will contain a Weekly Communication Log, papers, and school notes.  The Communication Log will either have a stamp for a successful day or a short note telling you about any problems that occurred.  The day must be initialed by you and returned the following day.  Your child is responsible for bringing this folder to school each day.

Please follow through at home for any unacceptable behaviors that occur during the school day as this will help your child to be more successful in school.  I appreciate your help in this matter!

Classroom Management

I believe that your child and all other students in the class deserve a warm, supportive, and interactive environment in which to learn.  Hence, if behavior is out of control, then learning cannot take place.  There are procedures and rules that must be followed, consequences for breaking them, and rewards for following them.  These rules, consequences and rewards are as follows:

Class Rules

1.  Keep hands and feet to self.

2.  Use a level 2 voice during work time.

3.  Walk everywhere inside or on ramps.

4.  Listen and follow directions.

5.  Be respectful to people and things.

Consequences

1.  Verbal warning

2.  Time out

3.  Short note to parents on Communication Log.

4.  Parent Contacty by phone, email, or face-to-face conference (this will be noted on the Home Communication report).

5.  Office Referral

Rewards

Individual good behavior will be rewarded with "Good Job" tickets.  Tickets will be entered into a drawing for a chance to pick from the treasure box at the end of the week.  Children will have opportunities to earn "Good Job" tickets throughout the day.  Children with three or more stamps at the end of the week on their Communication Log will be rewarded with a Sunshine Party on Friday.

Lunch Money

Please send all lunch money in an envelope with the student's name, PIN number, and teacher's name.  Please do not send money without an envelope.  You may pay for lunch in the cafeteria before school starts and during school hours.

Transportation

Please make sure your child knows which mode of transportation he/she is taking to go home.  For your child's safety, please send a written note in the morning for any changes in transportation.  Please DO NOT contact me with change of transportation by email or phone message during the school day, as I will not be able to effectively make that change happen.  Please contact the front office for any last minute changes that need to take place.  Thank you for your cooperation!

Conferences

I am available on Tuesday afterschool, Wednesday/Thursday before school to meet with you to discuss any concerns you may have regarding your child.  Please call or email me 24 hours in advance to make appropriate arrangements so that I can accommodate you.

Parent Volunteers

If you are interested in volunteering, I would love to have your help!  Please fill out our "Volunteer Form" with the days and times in which you are available and what type of jobs you want to do (A/R, preparing activities, working in small groups or one-on-one with students, etc.).  According to the Jessica Lunsford Act, ALL adults working in the classroom or attending field trips/class parties must have a notarized volunteer affidavit completed yearly.  Please remember to register at the front office as it takes approximately 2 weeks to be approved.

Volunteers will be scheduled with a time that is helpful to the teacher and the students.  I am able to use your help much more effectively when I know you are coming and have a task prepared for you.  So if you are scheduled to volunteer on a certain day or time and are unable to make it, please let me know as soon as possible, so that other arrangements can be made.  When you arrive, please sign in at the front office and wear your nametag.
